77-year-old grandmother has been jailed today for smuggling cocaine worth almost 1 million in her mobility vehicle.

Ambrozine Heron, 77, and her 49-year-old daughter Paulette Chambers, both of Smethwick, West Midlands, were both sentenced yesterday at Canterbury Crown Court for smuggling 16 kilos of cocaine, with an estimated street value of 800,000 into the UK.
Customs Officers intercepted them arriving at the Port of Dover in March this year. The drugs were found hidden in Heron's specially-adapted Nissan Pathfinder.
Heron and Chambers received 13 and 14 years respectively.
The court heard Heron was a 'willing participant' in the operation. She suffers from a range of illnesses including asthma, diabetes and hypertension.
Judge Adele Williams, issuing the sentences, said: 'I have no doubt that your role in the car was to add some respectability to the journey in respect of your age and your ill-health.
'The vehicle in which you were travelling was the mobility vehicle which you, Ambrozine Heron, were entitled to.'
She added: 'You Heron, in all the evidence before me, were a willing participant in this importation.'
The court heard that on Friday 21 March 2008, HMRC officers stopped a Nissan Pathfinder car, registered to Heron, at Dover's Eastern Docks. Officers searched the car and found two large shopping bags in between the second and third row of seats. Each bag contained approximately twenty tins of fruit concealing cocaine

Ann Smith knows about living with allergies.

br/>A new review of the long acting beta2-agonist (LABA) formoterol presented today at the European Respiratory Society (ERS) congress, shows that formoterol use in children and adolescents (4-17 years) with asthma, who are predominantly prescribed concomitant inhaled corticosteroids (ICS), is not associated with any increased risk of asthma-related hospitalisations.[i]
Today's review assessed the frequency of asthma-related deaths and hospitalisations following formoterol use in children and adolescents, compared with non-LABA treatment, in all AstraZeneca-sponsored, randomised, controlled, parallel-group trials (1 month) where formoterol was used as maintenance and/or reliever therapy. 12,083 patients aged 4-17 years from 53 trials were assessed in the analysis.
The results of the review show that there was no difference in the frequency of patients with asthma-related hospitalisations in formoterol-treated compared to non-LABA-treated patients, either in children (1.1% [38/3316] vs 1.1% [23/2165]) or in adolescents (0.5% [23/4651] vs 0.8% [16/1951]). The number of asthma-related deaths (one death among 7,967 formoterol-treated patients, and no deaths among the 4,116 non-LABA-treated patients) was too low to allow any inter-group comparison. 83 percent of patients in this review were using an ICS as concomitant medication whilst participating in the studies analysed

Lukwago said there was a high maternal/infant mortality rate and few children were immunised in the region.

Another vaccine is available to protect young women from cervical cancer - an illness now known to be caused by a virus called the human papilloma virus. Parents should discuss the HPV vaccine with their pediatrician.
- Flu season - Fall is just around the corner, and that means flu season. The CDC recommends the flu vaccine for children six months through age 18; anyone 50 and older; and anyone at risk of complications from influenza (including those with long-term health problems like asthma or diabetes, a weakened immune system, muscle or nerve disorders, living in a nursing home, as well as health care providers and those caring for young children or seniors).
Immunizations have greatly reduced the impact of many potentially deadly diseases, but the bacteria and viruses that cause them are still around us. Infants and young children are particularly at risk, but their suffering can be greatly reduced or prevented by having them vaccinated

University medical researchers announced Monday they will study 1,000 children in southern Illinois from the time of pre-conception until their 21st birthday as part of the National Children's Study, which will include 100,000 children nationwide.
The objective of the study is to find reasons behind diseases such as asthma, autism and obesity, said James Teufel, director of research at the SIUC Center for Rural Health and Social Service Development.
Kyaw Naing, an associate professor of family medicine, said the study is similar to the Framingham Heart Study of 1948, which discovered the harmful affects of cholesterol, high blood pressure and smoking on adults. He said no study of this size has ever been done in pediatrics.
'I'm very optimistic that it's going to help us try to figure out things that we can do to prevent things so that kids won't have asthma again or other environmental-related diseases,' he said

Asthmatics are twice as likely to suffer from nightmares, snoring and other disturbed sleep problems than other people despite major improvements in medications in the past decade, a major study has revealed.
Australian respiratory specialists have called for GPs to take a closer look at the sleep quality of their asthmatic patients after a large Swedish population study showed sleep problems were widespread and significantly more severe.
'Many people have assumed that because these new drugs are effective against night time asthma then people with the condition are sleeping well but that doesn't seem to be the case,' said Professor Guy Marks, an asthma epidemiologist at the Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Sydney.
A team from Uppsala University compared the sleep patterns of asthmatics in the 1997 with their sleep in 2008 to see if the popular class of drugs called long-acting beta agonists introduced in the meantime had improved sufferers' sleep.
'What we found was that despite these improvements in asthma management and therapy, sleep is still a major problem for asthmatics,' lead researcher Professor Christer (Christer) Janson told journalists at the European Respiratory Society congress in Berlin.
'They had double the prevalence of problems falling asleep, and also more problems staying asleep, waking up too early and other sleep disruptions that left them with excessive daytime sleepiness

We have - the state provides free doses for children who qualify - any child from 6 months to 59 months qualifies for state dose just because of age.
Othe children under 18 that live with this child qualify also
Kids under 6 months to 18 asthma, diabetes, certain conditions will qualify them for it.
Whole list of what child can get a state dose - just call us and ask us we can give them instruction over the phone as to qualification.
The order is in but we haven't received it yet, call us and we can let them know when it comes in.

A 77-YEAR-OLD disabled gran caught smuggling 1million of cocaine in her mobility car was jailed for 13 years yesterday.

A large British study of more than 14,000 mothers published earlier this year confirmed the chemical risk by showing children who were more exposed to everything from hair sprays to pesticides before birth had significantly higher rates of wheeze and worse lung function as eight-year-olds.
'That was the evidence we needed but still we have mothers-to-be using sprays of all types, and doing things like painting the nursery while they're pregnant without thinking about it,' Prof Sly said.
He urged stronger public health messages that stress the importance of looking for non-toxic alternatives for use during pregnancy.
'Natural products your grandmother would have used, like bicarbonate of soda, lemon juice and vinegar, are going to be much better for developing foetuses,' he said.
'And contrary to all the ads on television, it's probably wrong to be obsessive about cleaning. I'm not saying we should all live in squalor but commonsense should prevail.'
